My 15-year-old daughter was nearly snatched by man offering her lift at bus stop – don't make same mistake I did

A WORRIED mum has spoken out after her teenage daughter was approached by a man who tried to get her into his car.

The 15-year-old was waiting at a bus stop in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, when she said a driver pulled over and engaged her in conversation, before telling her to get in his car.

According to the teen, the driver asked her for the time and where she was going, before he told her to get into his car so he could take her to her destination.

The incident took place on Monday, December 27, and while the girl refused the man's advances, she's said the incident has left her shaken and hesitant to go out.

Her mum has been warning others in the area and asked those who endure similar experiences to report it to the police.

The mum, who asked to remain anonymous, told CoventryLive: "[Her daughter] was waiting at the bus stop on Warwick Road at the top of town outside St John’s church.

"A car pulled up in the bus lane and an Asian man, aged between 40 to 50 years old, got out of his car and asked my daughter the time and where she was going.

"He then asked her if she wanted to jump in his car and he’d take her into Leamington.

"She, fortunately, saw a friend and her dad on the other side of the road so ran to them and the man drove away.

"Unfortunately she didn’t get a description of his car or his number plate as it really frightened her but I wanted to make other parents and young adults aware as it happened in broad daylight.

"My daughter was quite shaken but it isn’t the first time something like this has happened to her in Kenilworth.

"She’s obviously less keen now to be walking far on her own even during the day.

"It didn’t immediately occur to me to report it as she was fortunate and made a good decision to get away from him.

"I would advise anyone else in the same situation to make sure they report it immediately and if possible get a description of the vehicle."

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said: "Police were made aware of a report of a suspicious vehicle close to St John’s Church on Warwick Road in Kenilworth at around 12.30 pm on Monday (27 December).

"A young girl was waiting at the bus stop when a man in a car – possibly light blue in colour – is understood to have pulled up.

"He began talking to her and the driver offered her a lift.

"The girl left the area and the car is reported to have driven off.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 79 of 31 December."
