A HOSPITAL has today declared it may be forced to WITHDRAW critical care as it became overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients.
Darent Valley Hospital, near Dartford in Kent, declared itself at CRITICON 4 alert level today – meaning patients could be refused life-saving care "due to resource limitation".
The Health Service Journal reports the "extremely rare" alert level is defined as: "Resources overwhelmed. Possibility of triage by resource (non-clinical refusal or withdrawal of critical care due to resource limitation).”
The HSJ also reports 173 per cent of the hospital's critical care beds were in use this morning, operating overwhelmingly over capacity.
