2 teens shot, 1 killed, while walking down Rochester street

A double shooting in Rochester left one teenager dead and another hurt Saturday.

The boys were reportedly walking down a busy street when someone opened fire on them.

The boy who died was in his early teens and was shot multiple times, Police Capt. Frank Umbrino told the local NBC affiliate WHEC-TV.

While investigators were at the hospital the second victim, who is 14, showed up with at least one gunshot wound. Umbrino said his injuries were not life-threatening.

At least six shots were fired, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. It’s not clear if one or more shooters were involved.

“All we know at this point is that the two victims were walking down Genessee Street when an unknown suspect or suspects fired at them,” Umbrino said. “It’s still very early, we’re talking to a lot of people.”

“I’m disgusted,” Umbrino said, reflecting on growing violence in the city. “We have a 14-year-old shot. We have another young man in his early teens also shot, walking down the street.

“I’m just leaving a soccer tournament where there’s hundreds of kids playing soccer, having a good time with their parents,” he continued. “And then we come out here, and you got two kids walking down the street in broad daylight, gunned down. Enough. Enough. People got to stand up.”

No suspects are in custody.
