Why did Matilda Freeman leave Coronation Street and who plays Summer now?

Summer Spellman makes quite the return in Coronation Street, as actress Harriet Bibby takes over the role from Matilda Freeman.

Summer was last seen on-screen in August, before departing for her grandma Geraldine’s.

She arrives back on the eponymous street tonight (November 20), and it’s safe to say that Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will be over the moon to see her.

However, the young girl gets quite the shock, as she sets her sights upon Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

Given the way in which Todd vanished from her life several years ago, she’s no doubt very angry with him!

But why has actress Matilda left the cobbles?

‘After three and a half lovely years I felt it was time for a change and I’m excited to be starting that next chapter with a new role.’

The actress had portrayed the character since her arrival on the cobbles in June 2017.
