The Wheel of Time is due to make its debut on Amazon Prime Video on November 19 and the first season is made up of eight episodes. The first three instalments of the epic fantasy drama will arrive at the same time, with the rest airing weekly. Critics have already given the show positive reviews and here is all you need to know about the stars.

Who is in The Wheel of Time?

Moiraine – Rosamund Pike

Moiraine is the main protagonist in the series and she is a member of the Aes Sedai – a powerful group of women with magical abilities.

She and a group of five young people travel around the world, with the belief one of them is the reincarnation of the Dragon.

This one individual is powerful enough to either save the world or destroy it for good.

Moiraine is played by Rosamund Pike, a 42-year-old British actress known for her roles in Die Another Day and Pride and Prejudice.

Speaking to HeyUGuys about her role in The Wheel of Time, she said: “I do like playing characters where, as an audience, you don’t know where you stand with them.

“I like characters where they don’t give all their secrets away straight up. They are not asking you to like them but they are still intriguing and fun to watch.”

Rand al’Thor – Josha Stradowski

Rand al’Thor is one of the protagonists in the original novels and he is a reincarnation of Lews Therin Telamon, and heir to his role.

He is known as The Dragon Reborn and the Aiel call him The Car’a’carn. His fate is to battle against the Dark One in every life.

The character is played by Josha Stradowski, a Dutch actor who has previously starred in Just Friends and High Flyers.

Speaking to Nerdist, he said: “So many copies of this book have been sold, I have heard about 90 million, it’s quite a lot.

“So I get people are really involved in it because one book is 900 pages so you spend a lot of time with these characters.”

Perrin Aybara – Marcus Rutherford

Perrin is one of the central characters in the book series and he is a former blacksmith and woodworker.

He has the special power of being able to communicate with wolves telepathically.

Perrin is played by Marcus Rutherford, a 26-year-old English actor who has previously starred in Obey and County Lines.

Speaking of the pressure of bringing the characters to the small screen, he said: “I think people have been in love with these characters a lot longer than we have.

“So they have this idea of what they should be and what they should look like, which is fine. I just think it’s a really cool time to bring them to screen.”

Nynaeve al’Meara – Zoë Robins

Nynaeve is one of the main protagonists in the series and she is Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah.

In the books, she discovered methods for healing certain conditions.

She is played by Zoë Robins, a 28-year-old actress who has previously starred in Power Rangers Ninja Steel and The New Tomorrow.

The star is on Instagram and she has been sharing photos of herself in character, along with her co-stars.

Fan austenjameswilson said: “So excited to see you bring Nynaeve to the screen. One of my favorite characters in the series.”

Mat Cauthon – Barney Harris

Mat is one of the five from the Two Rivers who joins Moiraine on her quest around the world.

In the books, he is considered to be one of the main characters and is a powerful ta’veren.

Mat is played by Barney Harris, a 24-year-old actor who has been in Starboy and A Brixton Tale.

Speaking about his character, he told IGN First: “Mat is probably seen as the sort of light relief of the books and of the series, but he’s much more complicated.”

“I think his sort of inner monologue is very much like, ‘I’m a bad person; I don’t deserve this.’ “Something to do with maybe the poverty that he has and the ideas of reincarnation and the stuff that you’ve done in a previous life coming into the fore. He sees himself as quite a bad person, but his actions are always good.”

Egwene Al’Vere – Madeleine Madden

Egwene grew up as a villager of Two Rivers who is headhunted by Moiraine and is taken away from her home.

She soon finds out that with her special abilities, she is of great use to others.

The wise and determined character is played by Madeleine Madden, a 24-year-old Australian actress.

She has previously starred in Tidelands, Ready for This and Mystery Road.

The Wheel of Time airs on Amazon Prime Video from November 19.
