Fans have been treated to a brand new look at ‘Here’s Negan’, the 22nd and final episode of The Walking Dead season ten. New images have teased the first insight into Negan’s (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) life before the zombie apocalypse, and keen-eyed fans of the AMC epic have unearthed some sinister clues.
The first images from the upcoming finale of The Walking Dead season ten have teased some new insight into iconic villain Negan’s criminal past.
Episode 22, ‘Here’s Negan’, will not only serve as the finale for the show’s penultimate instalment, but it will also be the last of six bonus episodes added to season ten following extensive COVID delays.
In the upcoming instalment, TWD mainstay Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise a different version of Negan before the events of the post-apocalyptic series.
His origin story will reveal his tough life with his sick wife, Lucille (Morgan’s real wife Hilarie Burton), for whom his signature baseball bat was named after.
The Walking Dead’s official Twitter profile captioned the images: “[Writer] Robert Kirkman’s HERE’S NEGAN comic finally gets its own episode!
“And whew boy will you guys love it. That’s all for now – stay tuned for more!!”
Season ten’s bonus chapters are set to start on Sunday, February 28, with ‘Here’s Negan’ scheduled for April 4.
Viewers were quick to express their excitement in the comments below, and also spotted a number of clues hidden within the new images.
One screenshot confirmed series regular Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) would play a part in the prequel episode in some capacity, while another revealed a look at Lucille pre-illness.
However, Twitter users were most intrigued by the picture of Negan sitting in an armchair attached to a drip.
Plus, while it’s easy to miss on an initial viewing, observant fans realised his other hand had been handcuffed to the chair, confirming he is being held against his will.
One user replied: “Can we talk about why his other arm is handcuffed to the chair?”

Another asked: “I’m so excited to see Here’s Negan! But why is Negan injecting himself with something?”
“A better request is why is he handcuffed while doing it?” one more fan responded.
Negan’s mysterious relationship with his late wife Lucille has been the subject of debate ever since he revealed his bludgeoning baseball bat had been named after her.
As the episode is set to take place in the early days of the zombie outbreak, fans are aware Negan has a stash of medication to treat Lucille’s cancer throughout the disaster.
However, these images suggest the eventual leader of the Saviours is already causing friction and may have landed himself at the mercy of his wife or another unknown adversary.
Although we already know Negan survives well into the later stages of the outbreak, he could be being poisoned by his wife’s medication after clashing with another survivor.
Alternatively, he may have been hiding a secret illness from viewers this whole time, and will have to receive treatment against his will in the upcoming prequel.
Whatever the case, Negan heavy episodes are always met with unanimous fanfare from the audience, so ‘Here’s Negan’ is expected to be a highlight of TWD’s penultimate season.
The Walking Dead season 10 continues Sunday, February 28 on AMC.
