Katya Jones and former footballer Tony Adams opened the Strictly Come Dancing Halloween special on Saturday with a Quickstep to The Devil Went Down to Georgia. The judges gave the couple their best score to date, which they discussed during the latest instalment of It Takes Two. While Tony appeared thrilled with his spooky routine, Katya teased him over making mistakes each week.

Katya told Tony he “messes up every week” during his live routines on Strictly Come Dancing.

However, she went on to praise the ex-footballer, telling viewers: “This is the first time he’s not made a single mistake.”

Tony clapped back: “Hang on, The Full Monty, I was bang on.”

The Russian dancer slowly nodded her head and sarcastically replied: “Yes.”

“I bet you believe that,” she joked as host Rylan Clark burst into laughter.

Rylan moved the conversation forward and told Tony he seemed like a different person during Saturday’s performance.

Tony quipped: “I shipped in my 18-year-old son to take my place – he had the makeup on, it wasn’t me.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Tony admitted he’s really enjoying being part of the competition which is now approaching week seven.

He said it was an honour to open the show at the weekend where he and Katya scored 31 points for their devilishly good Quickstep.

Tony revealed he breaks down each week on Strictly Come Dancing like he would a football match.

He explained: “I’ve chunked it in, we have two dances with the band, then a dress rehearsal.

“So I’ve done a warm-up, first half, and second half, I’ve got it chunked off.”

“The first half is just as important as the second half,” he continued. “Hopefully I won’t be doing extra time ever.”

Katya and Tony’s score on Saturday was eight points higher than their mark the previous weekend.

Tony said: “I think I was a bit disrespectful the week before because I was hurt and I didn’t nail it.”

“I didn’t do it right and I was annoyed at myself,” he added. “But this time I was with it and kind of happy with getting a three or an eight.”

Katya also reflected on their latest score, telling Rylan: “We have come a long way from week one, to not make a single mistake, he’s done everything perfectly and it’s already a huge step up and a huge improvement.

“That’s why I felt so proud and I was on the edge until the very last moment.”

EastEnders actor James Bye and his professional partner Amy Dowden were the latest couple to be eliminated from the competition, leaving just 10 pairs remaining.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
