Strictly Claudia Winkleman’s threat to quit series as she told bosses ‘I’m out’

Claudia Winkleman is hugely popular on Strictly Come Dancing, hosting the show alongside Tess Daly, and she very nearly didn't come back for 2021's show.

The star, 49, called up show boss Sarah James and said she was thinking of quitting over the suggested start date of September 13th.

She realised it clashed with the date her son Jake was due to start uni.

In a recent interview, Claudia explained: "I phoned the boss of Strictly, quite dramatically and said through tears, 'Sarah, I love you and I never want to leave, but if the first show is September 13th, I'm out'.

Claudia told Radio 4's Women's Hour: "It's not because I love him more than other people love their kids, I think this is something that parents have to go through and I don't know how it's going to work exactly"

Fortunately the show date changed from September 13th to 18th, which meant Claudia had a week to deal with her son leaving home.

She talked about her fears of "empty nest syndrome" now that Jake has spread his wings and gone to university.

Claudia admitted: "I genuinely don't know what I'm going to do.

"I mean we all have to do it and there aren't any words."

Fans will be thrilled that Claudia stayed, and there were no changes to the presenter line-up.

There was a new judge though, as Anton Du Beke makes his live-show debut with the voting paddles.

Viewers enjoyed Claudia's outfit on Saturday night's first show.

"Claudia is looking stunning tonight!" said one.

"I love the red lipstick on Claudia!" added another.

"It's a ten from me for Tess and Claudia's outfits tonight" praised one viewer.
