Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) is on a mission to prove that her neighbour Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) is lying about her cancer diagnosis and treatment in EastEnders. After enduring the condition herself and also losing her beloved Daniel Cook (Ade Edmondson) to it, Jean is affronted by Suki’s audacity and sets about trying to out her cruel lies.
Suki won back the sympathy of her children by claiming to be seriously ill but as she continues to keep up the act, Jean has grown steadily more suspicious. As Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) checks on her friend, Jean assures her she is fine and still taking her medication but it’s clear her target is Suki.
Eventually, Jean leads Suki into a trap after inviting her to a bake sale and gets the evidence she needs to accuse Suki of lying about having the disease. Her children Kheerat (Jaz Deol), Vinny (Shiv Dalota), Jags (Amar Adatia) and Ash (Gurlaine Kaur Garcha) are outraged by the claims and lead Suki out. But Jean’s words have struck a chord and soon they are beginning to think twice about believing Suki’s claims.
Eventually, after she gives off more warning signs that something is not right, Kheerat decides to call her bluff but will Suki be forced to come clean about her vicious lies? And if her offspring discover she has told such callous lies, will they throw her out?
It’s already been highly hinted at that devious Suki is a force to be reckoned with so could Jean have bitten off more than she can chew by taking her on?
If the secret being exposed destroys her newly repaired relationship with her children, will Suki seek revenge on Jean?
One to watch: Monday 9 March at 8pm on BBC One.
