Life has been a struggle for Gemma Winter (Dolly Rose Campbell) and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) since they welcomed the quads into their lives in Coronation Street. While they dote heavily on their family and have a strong support network, they have had to adapt to the living conditions in a small home with four babies as well as the financial burden that brings.
On top of that, Gemma endured post natal depression that made her doubt her abilities as a mother but as she sought help and overcame some huge challenges, life has stabilised and they have started to actually enjoy being parents to the quads.
However, they rely heavily on the income from Chesney’s job – which Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) has been doing on his behalf so that he can be with Gemma and the children.
So when Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) makes it clear that he is selling up the business, Chesney is left panicked as he points out that without the money, he, Gemma and the babies might have nothing to survive on.
Since sending Asha (Tanisha Gorey) to a new school, Dev has had to fork out on extortionate fees and we have seen that he is secretly struggling with money, prompting him to cut Bernie and Cathy’s (Melanie Hill) shifts.
When he then shows an estate agent around the premises, Asha realises what it has come to and, as she sees Bernie and Chesney upset about what this could mean for the future, she feels guilty.
With Mary (Patti Clare) also expressing her concerns about Dev’s accounts, he tries to brush away the trouble he is in.
But it’s clear that he is going to have to make a sacrifice somewhere – which could in turn be catastrophic for Gemma and Chesney.
Is more hardship on the way for the struggling family? And how will Asha and Dev cope with their consciences if so?
