Peter Barlow’s (Chris Gascoyne) battle with booze has been a long running arc in Coronation Street and the much loved character is set to face his demons once more and fall off the wagon in a big way – but will it lead to Peter’s death as actor Chris previously hinted?
Speaking some time ago to Metro.co.uk, Chris explained: ‘He’s already fell off the wagon twice where he’s nearly died and I think they always say there’s only three – I don’t think he’s got another one in him to recover from it.
‘And if the damage is bad enough, I think he would drink himself into oblivion which would be a brilliant storyline to play out. I’d be dead but if they wanted to say I’ll run this storyline, I would like to do that.’
That time may have come after an argument with Carla Connor (Alison King) and a beating from a stranger drives Peter to hit the bottle.
As he comes home covered in blood, e hides the fact that a passerby offered him a swig from a hip flask – which he then drank the whole of.
But when the passerby arrives and alerts Abi (Sally Carman), she warns Carla that Peter is on a downward spiral.
After a further row, Peter puts himself in hospital after a drinking binge – and as a helpless Carla stands by his side, she realises he could be heading down a dark path.
Is this the beginning of Peter’s final chapter? Or can Carla help him out of this?
