Rob Beckett’s hope of being ‘Mr Saturday Night for BBC’ hit as his gameshow axed

Comedian Rob Beckett’s hopes of becoming the new "Mr Saturday Night" for the BBC have suffered a setback.

The cheeky star filmed a big money game show called Revolver for the channel which was being dubbed ‘‘the new Wheel of Fortune’’.

But sadly the Beeb has decided to dump it. Beckett had high hopes for the TV show where contestants answer questions to win spins on a giant money dial.

They stood the chance of walking away with a whopping £100,000 or nothing at all.

Before the recording at Maidstone Studios in Kent the rules said: “If they get to exactly £100,000 over the course of their game they win it but if they spin £1 over or £1 under they lose everything.”

A pilot episode of Revolver was filmed in December last year and he even tweeted his 351,000 followers urging them to try and get tickets to come along to the recording.

But the audience was apparently left underwhelmed by the programme and, as a result of their reaction, the BBC decided not to order a series.

Last night a source explained: “Revolver was a non-TX pilot which we didn’t pick up and a series was never planned.”

However, a show production insider said: “It’s the BBC’s loss. There are talks going on about having Rob do the show for another channel.”
