Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield presented Wednesday’s This Morning, ahead of the Euro 2020 match against Denmark. Kick-off is at 8pm, but much of the show’s focus was on the upcoming game. This led some ITV viewers to complain the coverage was “too much” or that the extensive discussion could “jinx” the game.

The programme began with a rendition of ‘Jerusalem’ in which an opera singer was surrounded by the English flag.

After this, Holly and Phil celebrated the build-up to today’s match by chatting about predictions and celebrations.

Josie Gibson was dressed as a queen to mark the occasion as she prepared to visit the “most patriotic street” in Britain.

Additionally, the presenters sought the prediction of a “psychic banana” to determine whether or not England would win tonight. According to the fruit, they will.

It comes as the nation gears up to watch the game, which could see England secure a place in the final.

But although some are enjoying the festivities, others are questioning why morning shows are dedicating so much time to a game that airs in eight hours.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: “#ThisMorning I know this is controversial and Yes, its great for the morale of the country but not everyone is THAT into #football. Will anything else feature on today’s show?”

Another wrote: “We don’t require all the football pics on here. Please stop. #ThisMorning.”

“Stop talking about football #ThisMorning,” a third demanded, while another penned: “#ThisMorning Can’t be doing with all this hype now. My sons will be watching as far as football goes and wanting a win. That’s it! ( no hype for me).”

Another posted: “Appreciate I’m in the minority with hating football but roll on next week when this is all over and we get some normality back on the TV #thismorning.”

“If England don’t win tonight it’s #ThisMorning fault,” another suggested.

Echoing this view, someone else said: “#ThisMorning Save the celebrations for after the game if they make it through. Don’t jinx it.”

“#ThisMorning Right over the top now,” mentioned one viewer.

Another posted an emoji expressing an “eye rolling” face, writing: What was that song “Jerusalem”??? #ThisMorning.”

But others have been enjoying the celebratory focus and hope that comes ahead of the important match.

Some tagged the show in photos of themselves and family members celebrating.

One said: “‘It’s coming home’ our newborn Lewin has been our lucky charm during the euros! Come on England #ThisMorning #ITVThisMorning #ITV.”

“It’s coming home! There I said it! #ThisMorning,” a different viewer wrote.

One more said: “@thismorning I’m Polish but have lived in England my whole grown up life.

“Sooo EXCITED Star-struck about the footie tonight, let’s hope I don’t loose my voice like I did on Saturday can’t wait to watch it with my Beautiful Kiddies Sebastian and Annabelle #comeonengland #itscominghome.”

This Morning airs daily at 10am on ITV.
