Pirates of the Caribbean 6: Disney bosses ‘lobbying’ for Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow RETURN

Since 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Johnny Depp has starred in four sequels as Captain Jack Sparrow. The role that earned him an Oscar nomination has driven the billion-dollar franchise over the last two decades. But following the release of 2017’s fifth outing, Salazar’s Revenge (or Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US) it looked like Depp had been dropped.

Back in 2018, The DisInsider’s Skyler Shuler claimed the franchise was now going to be focused on female pirate Redd.

Fans will know she is a character from the Disneyland ride that the film series is based on.

But now We Got This Covered’s source, who correctly predicted that Disney was making a live-action Aladdin sequel, claims that the House of Mouse’s executives are lobbying for Depp’s return.

Allegedly, this is in light of “the recent turn of events in Depp’s legal battle [with ex-wife Amber Heard] and the overwhelming support from the public in his favour.”

The outlet also pointed out that if Depp did return for Pirates of the Caribbean 6, it would only be in a supporting role.

After all, this was the case in The Curse of the Black Pearl, when Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann and Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner were the leads.

But in the sequels that followed Sparrow became the lead since the other stars didn’t return for the fourth outing, and only cameoed in the fifth.

Yet, according to the insider, this new female pirate would be the lead of Pirates 6.

Presumably, this would still be Redd and so maybe Sparrow would be something of a mentor to her.

Meanwhile, let’s not forget that the end credits scene of Salazar’s Revenge teased where the next sequel could go.

The conclusion of that film saw Will and Elizabeth finally reunited after all the curses of the sea were ended.

But this also meant the return of Davy Jones, who perished at the conclusion of third film At World’s End.

It may have been a dream, but a creature that was clearly implied to be Jones approached the bed of Elizabeth and Will, with the latter waking up to find nothing but barnacles on the floor.

Of course, if Disney are rebooting the franchise, they may ignore this point and go elsewhere narratively.

After all, Davy Jones actor Billy Nighy had no idea of the inclusion until a journalist told him about it.

Interestingly, Depp claimed a couple of years back that Disney originally “hated” his vision for Captain Jack and wanted him fired.

Speaking with GQ, Depp said: “Disney hated me.

“[They were] thinking of every way they could to get rid of me, to fire me. ‘Oh, we’re going to have to subtitle him.’ ‘We don’t understand Captain Jack Sparrow. What’s wrong with him?’ ‘What’s wrong with his arms?’ ‘Is he drunk?’ ‘Is he mentally f***ing stupefied?’ ‘Is he gay?’”

“I told them, ‘Look, you don’t like what I’m doing, fire me. You hired me to do a job and play the character and this is what I want to do.’

“This is the work. I mean, hadn’t they seen any of the work I’d done previously? You might want to take a look at that before you hire a motherf***er, you know? I knew I was right. Even the very first time when they came back to me saying, ‘No, no, what is this?’ it felt right. Even when the other actors were looking at me like I was an absolute menace, I stayed with it.”
