Question of Sport returned with a new series on Friday night as it welcomed new host Paddy McGuinness and team captains Sam Quek and Ugo Monye to the show. Although just minutes into the programme, there was huge uproar online from unhappy fans who called for Sue Barker to make a return. Despite the criticism from BBC viewers, Paddy is yet to publicly address the backlash.

Friday’s instalment was the first episode of the show to air since iconic host Sue was let go by the BBC, having hosted for 24 years.

As Paddy introduced Friday’s show, he seemed to be thrilled to be taking over from Sue.

“Hello and welcome to a brand new series of Question of Sport,” he began.

“I’ve got to say, what a privilege it is to be sitting in this chair.”

“I’m going to be asking the questions and two new team captains will be giving me the answers,” he continued. “Well, hopefully, or things might get a bit awkward.

“One is an Olympic hockey gold medallist and the other a Lions and England rugby star. Please welcome, Sam Quek and Ugo Monye.”

“Here we go, this is it, this is nice,” Paddy shouted before they began the quiz.
