Ozark fans, prepare yourselves for a chaotic season 3.
On Thursday, Netflix dropped the first trailer for the upcoming season of the crime drama. As viewers recall, season 2 ended with Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) buying a river boat casino to continue their criminal activity, doubling down on risky decisions to expand their empire.
When the series returns on March 27, it picks up six months later — and with the casino in full swing, it puts some serious strain on the marriage at its center.
“We moved here to start over, and it’s been hard. Sometimes, if you don’t move forward, you die,” Wendy says in the trailer’s opening shot, gun cocked at her husband.
“If we had just kept our heads down, Wendy,” Marty says in another scene.
“There’s nothing we can do about that now,” Wendy warns. “We’re committed. We have made promises to our shareholders about this casino, and I don’t think we want to annoy our shareholders.”
With the stakes higher than ever, the conflict just keeps mounting — and not just between the Byrdes, but amongst all the players involved.
“You have done nothing but fight me on this!” Wendy cries.
“I was trying to protect our family,” Marty insists.
“That is such a tired, tired excuse,” she replies.
Here’s the official season 3 synopsis: “It’s six months later, the casino is up and running, but Marty and Wendy are fighting for control of the family’s destiny. Marty preaches keeping the status quo. Aided by an alliance with Helen and drug cartel leader Omar Navarro, Wendy plots for expansion. But when Wendy’s brother Ben comes into town, everyone’s lives are thrown into chaos.”
First released in 2017, the Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams-created series has been nominated for and won multiple awards over the past three years.
Most recently at the 2019 Emmy Awards, Bateman took home the award for outstanding directing for a drama series and Julia Garner scored the outstanding supporting actress in a drama series statuette. Linney was nominated for outstanding lead actress in a drama series, and the show was up for outstanding drama series.
Bateman was also nominated at the 2018 and 2019 Golden Globe Awards for best performance by an actor in a drama TV series.
Ozark season 3 hits Netflix on March 27.
