Loose Women stars Janet Street-Porter and Kelle Bryan clashed in a lively debate about coronavirus vaccines.

The panel of the ITV daytime show were discussing whether those who choose not to have the jab are “selfish” and whether people should have the choice to be vaccinated or not.

Kelle, 46, put forward her view that while it was wrong to label people “selfish,” she thinks we should be educating people so that they feel “more comfortable” about getting the vaccine.

However, as Kelle was in the middle of speaking, Janet 74, interrupted her co-star to give her take that it was purely down to “personal choice” and that calling people “selfish” wouldn’t help matters at all so the tactic needed to be changed.

After Janet said she thought getting the vaccine should be “up to the individual,” anchor Kaye Adams threw things over to Kelle.

Kelle explained: “I hear you, but it’s about education. [The reason] lots of people that are abstaining from having the vaccination is because they don’t feel like they’ve been given enough information.”

“We live in a privileged society where we can get the vaccine or we can go anywhere and get it, at any time.”

The Hollyoaks actress continued: “For me, personally, I couldn't wait. I don't think I should be labelling people as…”

Then, as Janet tried to speak over her, Kelle added: "One second Janet…I don't think we should be labelling people as selfish, but I do think we need to be educating people so they feel more comfortable.”

Janet then questioned Kelle, asking: “But what would be your tactic? If you keep calling them selfish – you and I agree on that – but the trick is here how to tip them over.”

She continued by saying: “And just shouting at them – not that we're shouting, but you know what I mean – nagging them isn't going to get a result.”

Kelle once again hit back saying it was important to talk to those who were wary about getting their jab, although she agreed with Janet that we shouldn’t be putting all people in the same bracket and calling them “selfish.”

However, it wasn’t just Janet and Kelle who put forward their views on the controversial subject.

Kaye Adams read out messages from the lunchtime show’s viewers, who argued that the vaccine was there to protect the country, the vulnerable and the NHS.

She also pointed out the ITV’s show’s poll which asked the question “Is it selfish not to get the vaccine?” showed that 64% of their viewers thought yes, with 36% voting for no.

Kaye continued: “What we do seem to know is that the vaccine affords us a great level of protection and we’re now in a position where we can be having that conversation. All across the world it’s seen as a game-changer.”
