Justin Bieber marks seven year anniversary of his DUI arrest and admits he was 'hurting, unhappy, angry and mislead'

JUSTIN Bieber has marked the seven year anniversary of his DUI arrest by admitting that at the time he was "hurting, unhappy, angry and misled."

The singer, 26, posted an image where he was being led away in handcuffs as he reflected on how far he has grown emotionally since then.

The performer hopes his philosophy on how he dealt with the drama – via God and Jesus – will help others who may be facing their own dark night of the soul.

Justin was just 19 when he was pulled over, along with singer Khalil, in Miami in the early hours due to suspected street racing.

They were subsequently charged with a number of offenses including driving under the influence and resisting arrest.

A toxicology report was later released confirming that Justin had both Xanax and THC in his system during the incident.

But Justin has revealed that it was his faith that helped him get through that particular period of his life.

He also hopes the lessons he has learned from his past tribulations may help some of his 159 million followers too.

He wrote on Instagram: "7 years ago today I was arrested, not my finest hour. Not proud of where I was at in my life.

"I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead [sic], misunderstood and angry at god. I also wore too much leather for someone in Miami."

He continued: "All this to say God has brought me a long way. From then til now I do realize something.

"God was as close to me then as he is right now. My encouragement to you is to ‘let your past be a reminder of how far god has brought you. Don’t allow shame to ruin your “today” let the forgiveness of Jesus take over and watch your life blossom into all that God has designed you to be. LOVE YOU GUYS WITH MY WHOLE HEART."

After the incident in 2014, a petition to have the Canadian entertainer deported from the United States ended up amassing over 270,000 signatures.

Later that year he reached a plea bargain with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to resisting an officer without violence as well as driving without due care and attention.

Justin was fined $500 and ordered to attend both an anger management course and a reckless driving program.

He also made a donation to a Miami-area charity.

Besides his faith, no doubt his marriage to model Hailey Baldwin has helped Justin to settle down and put the past firmly behind him.

She shares his religious beliefs and the pair used to attend services at the controversial Hillsong Church.

They parted ways with the church though after pastor Carl Lentz was fired for inappropriate behavior.

The couple briefly dated from December 2015 to January 2016, then got back together in May 2018.

They got engaged in two months later and confirmed in November 2018 that they were married.

Justin has been open about his struggle with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

Last year he revealed he had been diagnosed with Lyme Disease, saying that speculation that he looked like he was on drugs was untrue.

He also revealed that he has infectious mononucleosis, which affected his neurological and overall health.
