First Dates welcomed Howard from the Halifax ad into its restaurant last night, 20 years since becoming a household name – as Howard from the Halifax ad.
Howard Brown, 53, was looking for love hoping to find someone who wasn’t ‘intimidated’ by his fame.
Understandable, as Howard was blasted through TV sets hourly performing a slew of memorable covers back in the day.
Who could forget his take on Sex Bomb or Who Let The Dogs Out?, reworked to include Ivor Novello-worthy lines such as ‘Extra, Extra – I know you want more/ Extra, Extra I cannot deny. Terms and conditions apply.’
But as his celebrity-status dwindled slightly since the days of club PAs and cameos in Ricky Gervais’ The Office, Howard is back on the single market.
While the waiting staff knew they recognised the noughties icon from somewhere before, his date Bev, 61, didn’t have a clue she was talking to one of the most memorable faces of the millennium.
Fans, obviously, went wild:
Sadly, Bev didn’t feel the same and abruptly told the formerbank manager with the pipes of Tom Jones that a second date wasn’t going tohappen.
First Dates airs Thursdays at 10pm on Channel 4.
