GMB clash as India Willoughby claims trans athletes are ‘stealing dreams’

Good Morning Britain viewers have been left divided after Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid debated if transgender women should be able to compete in standard women's categories at sporting events.

The debate comes as transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard plans to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Furious at the idea, trans woman and TV personality India Willoughby fumed: "You do not need a medical test, just an eye ball test.

"I am a massive sports fans and I want trans rights but with this you are stealing people's dreams."

India agued that even if an individual was on hormone treatment for a year, their bone density and internal body will have developed to their birth gender.

However transgender women Joanna Harper completely disagreed – arguing it's not fair to bar trans women from competing in female only categories.

Piers decided to openly side withe India, arguing that the inclusion of trans women actually is unfair to women already completing in the category.

Meanwhile, Susanna Reid opted to keep neutral on the topic – aiming to be the guiding impartial voice of calm through the thorny topic.

One GMB fan wrote: "Totally agree with India Willoughby. Different levels of strength. Can they not make a special trans category?"

Another added: "Why can’t sports officials give a trans gender category for competitors everyone is learning together how best to move forward."

Meanwhile, a third continued: "GMB and Transgender sport; I'm with Piers and India Willoughby. Joanna Harper is a blind and brainwashed."

A fourth added: "Joanna Harper admitting transgender athletes retain some physical advantage, but says she would let Antony Joshua fight women if he declared himself transgender."

Taking to Twitter to argue against trans women competing in women's categories, Piers tweeted: "This is insane. Women's rights to basic fairness & equality are getting destroyed at the altar of political correctness," Morgan posted on Twitter.

"Trans women born with biological male bodies have a massive physical advantage against women born with female bodies in any sport where power & strength are significant factors. This shouldn't be a contentious claim, it's just a rather obvious fact."
