Gemma Owen’s friends and family share cryptic ‘be kind’ video after villa debut

Michael Owen's daughter Gemma has made a strong first impression since entering the brand new Majorcan villa for the start of 2022's Love Island. But amid the many supporters have been a flurry of negative comments and trolls.

Now, Scarlett Moffatt has come to the rescue, reminding people to "be kind" – which was appreciated by the 19 year old international dressage rider's friends and family in control of her Instagram.

Gemma's pals took to the social media platform to re-post former Gogglebox star Scarlett's message, where she shared: "So Laura [Whitmore] looks absolutely stunning and I've got to say Gemma is my favourite girl already, like she seems very down to earth.

"She's so dinky small and 19 – so young…"

Over this, the 31 year old wrote: "@thewhitmore stunning!! @Gemowen_1 is my fave!! @LoveIsland".

Sharing their appreciation for the kind words, Gemma's friends wrote: "Thank you for the support," with a white heart emoji.

They then re-posted a second clip, where Scarlett defended the brunette beauty after seeing many "nasty" TikTok videos about Gemma.

"Hello lovelies, I'm not in bed I'm actually filming today but I'm having a little rest. I wanted to address Love Island – have we learned nothing?" she started her video.

She then urged fans of the programme to "be kind" as she continued: "Do you know what I mean? People need to be really mindful.

"I'm not saying people can't have an opinion on people on the telly, but when those opinions become negativity, become disrespectful, become almost bullying… That's when it needs to stop.

"Just because these people are aesthetically beautiful, doesn't mean they don't have feelings or emotions or souls. They're someone's daughter, someone's son. I think we need to just really respect people."

Scarlett then addressed the backlash Gemma has received specifically, after viewers flocked to social media to claim she's trying to tell the Islanders who her famous footballer dad Michael is.

"Poor Gemma, I've seen so many nasty TikToks. People saying, 'Oh, she's trying to tell everyone her dad's Michael Owen.' Firstly, so what? He is, I talk about my family all the time," Scarlett explained.

She continued: "Secondly, someone asked what he second name was and she said 'Owen', which it is. Thirdly, someone was talking about football and she had an opinion on it.

"Let's just be nice, let's just be kind. It costs nothing."

"Let's just be kind and enjoy the show everybody," she wrote over this, to which Gemma's friends responded: "Couldn't of said it better ourselves @scarlettmoffatt," with a white heart emoji.
