Friends star Courteney Cox's ex David Arquette reveals he was near death after gory wrestling match

FRIENDS star Courteney Cox's ex David Arquette reveals that he almost died after being involved in a gory wrestling match.

The actor has been competing in the ring on-and-off for the last 20 years.

It all kicked off in 2018 where the Hollywood star went head-to-head with ex-con Nick Cage in a deathmatch, a bout featuring everything from bats to chairs and more.

However, things turned ugly when Nick smashed a fluorescent light tube over David's head as blood began spilling from him.

The now 49-year-old recalled to the Daily Star: "It nearly cost me my life. I was in way over my head. I was about half an inch from death…”

Even with the gruesome injury, David still attempted to continue the match after the late Luke Perry's son, Jack, assured him that he was not bleeding to death.

David told the outlet: “I could hear Luke but I couldn’t see him. I said: ‘Luke is it pumping?’ because I was worried I was bleeding out and he said: ‘No it’s not pumping.’

"I knew at that point I wasn’t dying immediately, I could try to finish the match.”

Jack, who is also a wrestler known as Jungle Boy, would end up taking David to the hospital.

David is currently married to journalist Christina McLarty, and they share two kids.

The Ready To Rumble star recalled Christina telling him: "'I just feel like you want to die.'

“I don’t want to die but life is painful. If you have addiction issues like I do there’s an element in the back of your head that the addict is literally trying to kill you.

" You have to find ways to deal with it so you don’t continue to kill yourself, either slowly or quickly.”

Aside from the death of the Beverly Hills, 90210 star, David also lost his transgender sister, Alexis, in 2016 to a heart attack.

He said: "Losing someone is really painful but a few things have happened to make me feel we are all much more connected.

“For wrestling, you shave everything and at one point I was looking at my arms and it was like I was looking at Alexis’ arms, as being transgender she would shave them.

"For a second it was like I was looking through Alexis’ eyes… I think we’re a lot more connected than any of us know.”

David's love of wrestling is documented in his new film You Cannot Kill David Arquette.

However, David is also expected to star alongside his ex Courteney, 56, in Scream 5, out in 2022.

The former couple tied the knot in 1999 before parting ways in 2013.

They welcomed daughter Coco, now 16, during their relationship.

The two stars have been quite open about their successful coparenting relationship as David once told ET: "We're in touch quite a bit. It's great."

"We always love working together. She's an incredible actress, so it'll be fun to bring these characters back to life and see where they're at," David added, referencing the upcoming slasher sequel.
