Emmerdale fans in tears as heartbroken Priya sees her scars for the first time

Emmerdale fans were left in tears on Thursday's episode as Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade) saw her scars for the first time following the maize maze fire in October.

During the episode, Priya felt under pressure when Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) turned up to Rishi Sharma's (Bhasker Patel) pre-Christmas do looking glam from head-to-toe.

Ashamed of her joggers, Priya asked Leyla to help her find something to wear but her anxieties about her body were made worse as she rifled through her wardrobe.

After admitting she hasn't yet looked at her scars, Leyla kindly encouraged her friend to face her fears as the pair looked at Priya's back together.

Before the powerful scene, Priya insisted: "I want to get my life back, I need to look at the scars…"

The two friends were stunned into silence when they saw the scars and Priya stood quietly as she took in her reflection.

Viewers were left in tears over both the emotional and powerful moment as they took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One person said: "Well done Priya you're so brave #Emmerdale," followed by clapping and crying emojis.

A different account put: "#Emmerdale a powerful scene from @FionaWade_ just now. Priya is so brave," followed by crying emojis.

Another follower commented: "Omg Priya she’s so Brave & more stronger than she thinks #Emmerdale," followed by crying emojis.

While a different fan added: "Beautiful scenes from Priya and Leyla tonight. You got this Priya #Emmerdale."

Ahead of the moment, actress Fiona opened up about what it was like to film the "heartbreaking" scenes, explaining: "It’s a really sad moment.

"It took two hours in make-up to do the scars, but I didn’t look at them before I went on set as I wanted to get the reaction.

"For Priya – and me, actually – it’s incredibly hard and heartbreaking as what she sees is just not her body. She doesn’t know who she is any more."
