Legendary musician Elton John was one of the guests to star on the latest episode of The Jonathan Ross Show. While promoting his new Christmas song with Ed Sheeran, he addressed the rumours of a near-death incident with the singer.

This week’s instalment of The Jonathan Ross Show featured Michelle Keegan, Rob Bryden and Judi Love – as well as musical guests Craig David and MNEK.

Sir Elton John, joined from his home via video link to promote his latest song ‘Merry Christmas,’ which features Ed Sheeran.

Elton got talking about his Christmas plans this year and shared it would be a: “Very quiet Christmas. It’s just the two boys, me and David.”

The 74-year-old also spoke on his family’s traditions: ”The boys open their stockings around 7am, they come down to us at about 8am.

Speaking on the music video, Elton revealed: “I don’t really make videos very often. I’d just had my hip replaced, they made sure I sat down.”

Jonathan got talking about rumours of Ed almost killing the musician, while they were filming the video.

At which he responded in shock: “I beg your pardon? I have no idea about this! I have no idea, this is news to me. Have you got proof?”

After the host then explained how a bell almost hit his head, Elton exclaimed: “How big was the bell? Wait until I see that little b*****d!”

In multiple interviews, Ed had described Elton as his mentor, which he confirmed and explained to Jonathan: “I started managing him right at the beginning, our company managed him from the word go.”

He praised: “I really like him. He’s one of the kindest, hard-working people I’ve met. He’s just a sweetheart. I love him. I’m so glad he’s happy. He’s 30, he’s got a little girl, got a lovely wife.

The Your Song singer also joked about their friendship: “He’s gone through that stage of getting drunk all the time. He’s alright. He’s very small, apparently in every department.”

With the release of the new songs, Elton opened up about returning to live shows: “The last two outdoor shows in Britain I wanted to end at Watford because it’s been such a special place for me.

“It’s been a wonderful journey for me there, my special request was the last two shows in England were to be at Vicarage Road,” he added.

Elton is set to be heading on his mammoth ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ world tour between 2022 and 2023 before his indefinite retirement from touring.

Explaining his decision, he shared: “I’ll be 76, I think I’ve had enough applause. I’ll always be involved in music, I hope I do my radio shows.”

When asked what he would do in his retirement, Elton answered: “I love photography. I like photographs. I’ll probably be doing some curating at the V&A museum of my photos.

He added: “I don’t know what’s going to happen, I’ll be at home with my boys – they’ll be in their teenage years.”

The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 10:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
