Boxing Day saw the return of the popular BBC murder mystery series Death in Paradise. The show, which follows the lives of detective inspectors on the glorious island of Saint Marie, is no stranger when it comes to festive releases with nail-biting twists at every corner. Retired police officer Dwayne Myers (played by Danny John-Jules) who left in season seven, returns to help solve the latest murder. In a recent Q&A with Radio Times, Danny has opened up about the relationship between his character Dwayne and newcomer PC Marlon Pryce (Tahj Miles) after he admitted: “I’m a nervous wreck.”

In jest, when quizzed on whether he will be returning to the show, Danny said: “Not if Marlon is in it.”

To which co-star Ralph Little joked: “I don’t want to work with him either.”

While the cast began to chuckle, John-Jules continued: “Sorry, I’m having flashbacks from the [Christmas] special.

“Ouf! I’m a nervous wreck.” He quipped.

The 61-year-old actor left the series back in 2018, following a seven-year stint as the much-loved character.

Speaking about permanently returning to the show, the TV star said: “I had no complaints about being in the Christmas special,

“As you can obviously see, the story was tight,” he said.

The Christmas instalment saw PC Officer Myers return as he teamed up with Detective Neville Parker (Ralf Little) and Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert) to solve a hard-hitting murder.

After having read the script for the festive episode, the former Strictly Come Dancing star said: “Because of the Marlon connection, it was like joining the dots.

“It was appealing to do that,” the actor added.

Following his return, PC Myers quickly realised he knew Marlon after he had previously arrested him for a petty crime in the past.

He said: “Marlon has replaced Dwayne now having lost JP.”

DI JP Hooper was a fan-favourite on the show for an impressive six years before making his heartbreaking exit at the end of the latest season.

Speaking about the budding relationship between Dwayne’s character and Marlon, he claimed their storyline was “a good choice”

In the interview, Danny admitted the storyline encouraged him to take part in the special, adding:  “If that is what it [the show] does to you…

“Then, of course, it will always be appealing.”

In the series finale, fans saw Catherine Bordey (Élizabeth Bourgine) urge Neville to confess his love for Florence once and for all.

Unfortunately for Ralph Little’s character, after finally plucking up the courage to go to her house, it was revealed that his co-worker was getting ready for a date with a former school friend.

In the final scene, audiences were on the edge of their seats after Neville said to the fellow detective: “What I wanted to say was…”

Before his confession, a mosquito landed on his head which caused Florence to swat the insect away.

The romantic gesture didn’t quite go as planned after Neville was rushed to hospital after suffering from a nosebleed when his love interest accidentally whacked him.
