After Life continued to bring fans to tears when the final season dropped on Netflix. Fans were expecting an emotional rollercoaster but the final moments tugged at the heartstrings more than ever. Viewers are keen to find out whether the beloved dog Brandy dies at the end.

Does the dog die in After Life?

Tony Johnson (played by Ricky Gervais) finally begins to see the brighter side of life in the final season.

Having come to terms with his wife’s death, he finally cashes in her life insurance policy.

With the money, he helps those in need and his selflessness does not go unnoticed.

He also attends the local fair and his friends and loved ones can see how much happier he has become.

Tony spent his final moments with dog Brandy, whom he claims saved his life.

At the end of the series, Tony is seen walking off into the distance with his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman) and Brandy.

One by one, they slowly disappear, with Lisa first followed by Brandy.

This has led some fans to ask whether Brandy eventually died in the series.

Thankfully Gervais confirmed the beloved pet is still alive and well at the end.

Ahead of series three, Ricky told The Mirror: “I made the dog as important as anything on the planet.

“That dog metaphorically and literally saved Tony’s life. And they do, it’s true. I’ve met lots of people who got a dog after their partner died, or their kids got them a dog after their partner died, and it changed them.

“They were happy again, you know? A pet is a member of the family. We put down our cat in March, and I was devastated.

“So I can’t imagine a dog dying. It’s the only spoiler I do – the dog does not die!”

Fans had taken to Twitter to express their concerns as they feared the worst for the furry friend.

Explaining the final moments of the series, Gervais said: “Well, the ending for me says, life goes on.

“It’s basically saying, we all die, but not today.”

Fans have continued to take to social media to share their thoughts on Brandy’s role in the show.

Kerry Fowler said: “What a beautiful way to end this wonderful series.

“With such a strong thread concerning dogs and Tony’s relationship with Brandy. So emotional.”

DubaiBoy1888 said: “It’s over! Absolutely wonderful! The dog doesn’t die! #AfterLife3.”

J added: “I swear to god if the dog dies in this season I’ll be broken #AfterLife3.”

Lou said: “Dear @rickygervais I’m absolutely busting with excitement for #AfterLife3.

“But I swear to God if the ruddy dog dies, there will be uproar!!”

They will be pleased to hear Gervais confirmed Brandy survives the whole series.

After Life seasons 1-3 are on Netflix now.
