The Red Sox caught a touch of the cheating shade that has mostly been reserved for the Astros this spring.
Yankees reliever Zack Britton poked fun at Boston while he was mic’d up on Tuesday during a game between the two AL East rivals. Britton was warming up and being interviewed by ESPN’s Matt Vasgersian and Alex Rodriguez.
“You guys got the Red Sox on this broadcast. They know what’s coming. Are you feeding them anything?” a laughing Britton said.
MLB is investigating the depths of the Red Sox’s cheating, believed to be focused on the 2018 season. Boston’s manager Alex Cora was already fired for the role he played in the Astros’ cheating scandal, when he was the team’s bench coach.
It is not believed MLB’s report on the Red Sox will be as damaging as the one that revealed the Astros’ misdeeds in 2017, which helped them win the World Series. It remains unclear when the report on the Red Sox will be out.
“No, we got a garbage can we are going to knock around for you,” Vasgersian joked.
