A woman whose eczema was so severe she struggled to open her eyes and was left too embarrassed to leave her own home has praised a £12 natural cream for clearing her skin ‘in just a month’.

Emily White, 22, from the Lake District, has suffered from the condition since she was a baby and needed to moisturise every hour to stop her dry skin from cracking further, as well as weekly hospital trips to see a specialist.

Eventually, thanks to medicated bandages, steroids and further treatment, Emily was able to manage her eczema – until the pandemic started, and the painful skin condition returned.

Feeling insecure, Emily felt too embarrassed to leave her home and was left struggling to open her eyes – before she discovered MooGoo Soothing MSM Moisturiser on Instagram.

The £12 Australian item, available in the UK, which Emily has been using for just over a month, is a natural formulation cream created by the brand that specialises in products which were originally formulated for cows’ udders.

‘Over the last 12-18 months the eczema on my face has got worse and worse. It has been tricky to keep under control. I have found it really difficult to put anything on my face, including make up,’ admitted Emily.

‘I was so sore and red. I felt too embarrassed and unwell to go anywhere when my face was at it’s worse which had a huge impact on my life. Your skin really can take over your life quite literally.

‘There are times where I had skin infections, swollen eyes to the point where I struggled to open them,’ she recalled.

This was before Emily (pictured left before using the cream, and right, after) discovered MooGoo Soothing MSM Moisturiser on Instagram

Emily said she tried ‘pretty much everything to moisturise my skin’, including several different creams, masks and treatment, but none were successful.

She said: ‘I was prescribed numerous steroid creams and antibiotics which curbed it at first, but it just kept coming back. It was making me feel insecure and sad.’

Desperately searching for anything that could help, Emily came across an Australian natural skincare brand online that had been praised for helping those with sensitive skin.

‘I came across a product called MooGoo on Instagram which people had been recommending for eczema.’ I liked the look of it as it tells you exactly what is in the cream, and it doesn’t contain perfume which is really irritating for me.’

At the peak of her facial eczema, Emily needed to moisturise her skin every hour to keep it nourished and to prevent it from splitting.

WHAT IS ECZEMA?

Eczema is a condition that causes the skin to become itchy, red, dry and cracked.

Atopic eczema is more common in children, often developing before their first birthday. However, it may also develop for the first time in adults.

Eczema causes the skin to become itchy, dry, cracked, sore and red. Some people only have small patches of dry skin, but others may experience widespread red, inflamed skin all over the body.

From NHS UK

‘I ordered some of the MooGoo Soothing MSM Cream online which was recommended for eczema and I have gone from needing to moisturise all the time to hardly at all,’ said Emily.

‘This might sound like no big deal to some people but for me it has made a huge difference.’ I have noticed a huge improvement in my skin since using MooGoo.

‘I am no longer itchy too which is amazing. I have been using MooGoo for over a month now and my skin has never been better,’ she added.

Since allowing her skin to ‘heal naturally’, Emily says her flare ups are smaller and more manageable, which she didn’t think was going to happen.

She said: ‘I can honestly say it has changed my life the past few weeks. I never thought I’d get my skin so clear from my eczema. I’m so happy I could cry. I feel like I’ve got my quality of life back.’

‘I feel like I got a new lease of life and I was back to my old self, leaving all the negativity behind. I never honestly thought I would get my skin this clear of eczema.’

Emily is not alone in finding her skin has become inflamed and itchy since the start of the pandemic.

People who suffer from skin conditions such as eczema have seen their conditions worsen since the COVID-19 pandemic started, according to the Australian company.

MooGoo CEO Melody Livingstone says the business has seen a marked rise since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘We have had a lot of people come to us looking for relief for skin problems, mostly caused by continuous washing of hands or using harsh anti-bacterial hand sanitisers,’ she says.

‘There is also a lot of anxiety surrounding the pandemic, which seems to have increased eczema, psoriasis and other skin flare ups’ says Ms Livingstone.

She adds; ‘Consumers are becoming a lot more knowledgeable about product ingredients and are increasingly seeking natural treatments and remedies.’
