It’s safe to say we’re all a little bit hooked on Netflix ’s new viral series Squid Game. Terrifying though it is, there’s nothing scary about Korean model-turned-actress Jung HoYeon, who plays contestant Kang Sae-Byeok (player 067).
The 27 year old champions blood-red lips and a shag hair cut throughout the series, so we predict these beauty trends will soar from her appearance on the show. HoYeon is also our new inspiration to remember to remove makeup properly each night, because her flawless skin is the true star of the show.
But if you don’t know much else about the actress other than her to-die-for beauty look, we have all the information to help you get to know the model a bit more…
Who is Jung HoYeon?
If you watched Jung look amazing in a green tracksuit and wondered if she was a model, you’d be correct. She started her career at 16, quickly becoming known for her flame-red hair, which set her apart from other models.
She modelled at Seoul Fashion Week before signing up to season four of Korea’s Next Top Model in 2013. Jung ultimately placed second, which rocketed her modelling career and resulted in covers with the likes of Vogue Japan and Harper’s Bazaar Korea.
Her move into acting began in 2020 when she signed with an entertainment agency. Her big break came shortly after, when she was cast as Squid Game’s fierce Kang Sae-Byeok. Since Jung was known in her early modelling days for her fiery personality, it seems the character is a perfect fit for her.
The Korean-born beauty also has an impressive Instagram profile, boasting a whopping 13 MILLION followers – making her the most followed Korean actress on the social app.
Jung has a famous other half, Lee Dong-Hwi, 36. The Korean actor starred in 2019’s Extreme Job – the second highest-grossing South Korean movie to date. The duo have been in a relationship since 2015, but rarely appear together in loved-up Instagram snaps.
Jung’s social profile instead shows glamorous modelling images and bare-faced selfies. These past few weeks she’s been busy giving fans a backstage look at the making of Squid Game. We personally love the unseen snaps of Jung in a tuxedo from the final episode (no spoilers, we promise!).
Let’s hope we see more of the star soon!
