When it comes to fashion, the WNBA is one of the better examples of athletes showing off their wardrobes. Many athletes have used their attire to support Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner, who has been detained in Russia since February after being arrested in a Moscow-area airport.
Several WNBA stars have worn gear featuring Griner’s face and jersey number along with pins that read “We are BG.” On Tuesday, Griner’s detention was extended until at least July 2.
More fashion statements have been made across “The W” this week. From trench coats to hockey jerseys, athletes have once again shown out on the pregame runway.
Here are some of the best looks from around the WNBA.
Several Lynx players wore “We are BG” shirts to show solidarity for Griner.
Briann January and Reshanda Gray, Seattle Storm
January’s fit featured a shirt with a picture of Prince on it along with a denim jacket. Gray sported a shirt with Griner’s picture on it.
Skylar Diggins-Smith and Kristine Anigwe, Phoenix Mercury
Ahead of their matchup with the Sky Tuesday, Diggins-Smith supported Griner by rocking her jersey under a roomy trench coat. Anigwe’s look featured a loose-fitting top accompanied by gray pants and shades. Anigwe knows a thing or two about fashion, as she owns a luxury clothing brand, KA Originals.
Natasha Cloud, Washington Mystics
The Philadelphia Flyers failed to make the NHL postseason, but that didn’t stop Cloud from repping the squad. She arrived at the Mystics’ contest against the Mercury Tuesday in a Flyers jersey with Air Jordan 1’s in a matching colorway. Cloud is a Pennsylvania native born in Broomall and played for St. Joseph’s in college.
Michaela Onyenwere, New York Liberty
Onyenwere’s outfit on Sunday featured a multi-colored letterman jacket, a Telfar handbag and sunglasses.
Bria Hartley, Indiana Fever
Hartley seemed to find the perfect balance between casual and classy Sunday. She donned a blazer paired with a set of ripped jeans. Hartley also wore a necklace, with the pendant being her jersey number (14). Her handbag of choice was a saddle bag from Christian Dior. The accessory runs for $3,800 on the company’s website.
