New Balance Hoops' TWO WXY Is All About Versatility

Though its lifestyle division may be blasting off like a rocket, New Balance is opting for a more measured expansion of its basketball franchise — slowly but surely bolstering its hoops footwear offerings and adding players to its roster. The latest product of this controlled expansion? A dexterous silhouette dubbed the TWO WXY, designed for positionless two-way players.

A spiritual successor to the Kawhi Leonard-adjacent OMN1S, the TWO WXY boasts an adaptable Kinetic Stich upper atop a high-rebound FuelCell midsole and textured outsole. The upper and outsole alike were designed with what New Balance calls “algorithmic advancements” that provide carefully-tuned support and traction. From an aesthetic standpoint, the TWO WXY supplies a fingerprint-esque pattern on its quarter, a ridged toebox, a large NB logo on the heel and a “TWO WXY” graphic on both sides of the tongue.

Keen-eyed fans have likely already seen the TWO WXY on NBA courts: multiple makeups have been worn by Jamal Murray, Dejounte Murray and Darius Bazley. Its two debut retail colorways will be a yellow, sport blue and navy style worn by Bazley plus a vivid pink, mint green, orange and black makeup sported by the San Antonio Spurs‘ Murray.

“With the TWO WXY, we wanted to create something that players at any level would not only want to wear, but need to wear, if they wish to perform at the highest level,” said Jonathan Grondin, Design Director for Field of Play and Basketball at New Balance. “For decades, the focus of the basketball shoe world has been more on the superstar names and less on performance. The TWO WXY is all about the technology and giving every player, whether they’re competing for an NBA championship or a state title, the same opportunity to maximize their potential.”

Look for the New Balance TWO WXY to release in the coming weeks via the New Balance webstore and retail outposts like Foot Locker. The MSRP is set at $140 USD.
