Based on Google Trends data from around the world, it has been revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were the most interesting royal couple of 2021. The pair were the most searched for couple among all royal couples this year.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have beat the likes of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after being crowned the most interesting royal couple of 2021.
After analysing global Google Trends data for the past year, Lucky Creek found the Sussexes had caused searches to skyrocket more than any other royal couple.
Meghan and Harry were searched for 64 percent more than all the other royal couples combined.
The pair were searched for 367 percent more than William and Kate.
This was likely due to Sussexes infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March earlier this year.
The interview was searched for 566 percent more than any other event throughout the year, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
Prince Philip’s funeral was the second most searched for royal event of 2021.
As for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, people all over the world Googled the couple’s names 410 percent more than their annual average in April.
This was due to the couple’s 10-year anniversary, which was recognised with a BBC documentary and an intimate Instagram post shared on the pair’s account.
The Queen was also searched for the most in April, making her the third most searched for member of the Royal Family throughout the year, coming just behind the Cambridges in the list.
Interest in her life increased in April due to her late husband’s funeral, during which she was pictured sitting alone in St. George’s Chapel.
Searches for Her Majesty soared 279 percent during this time, according to Google Trends.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, were the least interesting royal couple of 2021, according to Lucky Creek.
Lady Louise Windsor, on the other hand, was searched 165 percent more in 2021 than in 2020.
The 18-year-old is the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
A spokesperson for Lucky Creek commented on the findings, saying: “Meghan and Harry’s departure from working royal life in 2020 sent shockwaves across the world and this data reveals that their influence has only continued to grow.
“This year has been incredibly eventful for the entire royal family and it is fascinating to see Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey being hailed as the most interesting royal moment of the year.
“It is truly a testament to the couple’s influence that they have captured the world’s attention despite very few public appearances.”
Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah was released on March 7 earlier this year.
The couple spoke to the TV stalwart about the Royal Family, life in California, and mental health, among other topics.
