Michael Owen’s other children including emotional journey with ‘clinically blind’ son

Fame runs in the Love Island gene pool as footballing legend Michael Owen's daughter Gemma continues to make headlines during her time in the Spanish villa.

We've previously seen the likes of Tommy Fury, Dani Dyer and Rochelle Humes's sister Sophie Piper make waves on their journey to find love, and this year's secret celebrity Islander is no different.

19 year old Gemma Owen is waving the flag for famous faces this season, and is already well on the way towards her happily ever after after chatting all things kids and wedding bells with Italian stallion Davide Sanclimenti, 27.

Dad Michael previously played as a striker for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle, and it looks like daughter Gemma has scored herself a bombshell if things with Davide continue to develop.

Outside of the villa, Gemma has already built up her own impressive business empire, having launched her own luxury swimwear line in 2020.

The brand, OG Beachwear, was kickstarted during lockdown and sees Gemma selling her two-pieces for around £130.

She also has a successful sporting career as an international dressage rider and represented Great Britain at the European Championships last year.

But what about the other members of the Owen family?

Family of six

Gemma might be a face on our television screens every night, but she's also the oldest member Michael Owen's four children with childhood sweetheart Louise Bonsall.

The family of six live in a £4 million mansion in Chester with space enough for Gemma's 12 horses.

Michael's two youngest daughters are Emily May Owen, 14, and Jessica Owen, 12.

During a discussion on the Walk The Dog podcast, Michael spoke about his relationship with his kids.

He said: "It's really difficult from a parent's point of view.

"You want to give your children the best start and the best chance.

"But you're always wrestling with the fact that if I just make it so easy, and I can do this and do that, is she going to learn from any mistakes?

"You want money that much – there's a pub down the road, go and work behind the bar or something. That's my view."

Michael's only son James Michael Owen was born in 2006.

The 16 year old suffers from a rare condition known as Stargardt disease, which causes degeneration of the retina in the eye.

In an interview with The Times, Michael opened up about James' condition and emotionally explained that his son will never follow in his footsteps.

He said: “He will never be a footballer. My son’s got an eye condition. I’ve never said this. I don’t want a big headline.

“Clinically, he’s blind. He’s got Stargardt disease, a degeneration of his retina.

“I used to go and watch him and b*****k him about his positioning. He can’t see the ball until it’s five yards away.

“As much as every father wants their son to play, it is almost a relief to me.”

Childhood sweetheart Louise Bonsall

Michael met his wife-to-be at school, and the childhood sweethearts finally married in 2005 after welcome their daughter Gemma into the world two years earlier.

Louise started riding horses when she was just seven, but suffered a horrific horse-riding accident a year after Gemma's birth which led to a three week stint in hospital, and a broken back, hip and pelvis.

Despite the awful accident, the family all still share a love of horses.
