Meghan Markle paid tribute to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana with her wardrobe during her trip to New York with husband Prince Harry.

The 40 year old attended the Global Citizen Live event with Harry, 37, on Saturday with Royal fans noticing her subtle nod to Diana in her accessories.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a black coat and scarf for her day out with her husband, teaming the outfit with a Dior bag which is named after his mother.

She carried the Christian Dior Lady D-Lite bag, which was originally named Chouchou, but changed its name in 1996 after Princess Diana was seen using it.

Diana carried the £3,450 bag on a number of occasions, admitting it "suited her well" before another was made in navy blue, matching the colour of her eyes.

Meghan also opted to wear a £17,800 Cartier Tank Française watch – which was also worn by Diana numerous times – for the engagement.

Diana was spotted wearing the gold piece on a 1997 visit to the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple in London, and again on a trip to the British Lung Foundation later that year.

It was gifted to her by her father, John Spencer, on her 21st birthday.

Meghan revealed she had bought herself a version of the watch when her drama series Suits was renewed for a third season in 2013.

She has been gifted a number of items from Diana's collection since her relationship with Harry started in 2016, including a pair of butterfly earrings and a gold bracelet, which she wore on their tour of Australia in 2018.

During their trip to New York, Harry and Meghan also visited the 9/11 memorial and were joined by New York Governor Kathy Hochul and the Mayor of NYC, Bill de Blasio.

Royal fans noticed that the small sparkling Cartier studs she had on were the same ones she wore while walking down the aisle during her star-studded wedding in May 2018.

The dazzling and timeless white gold and diamond earrings are said to be worth an eye-watering £12,050 ($16,500).

As well as her wedding, Meghan has worn the statement accessory on several other occasions, including a month before her wedding at the Invictus Games reception in London.
