Hollywood’s resident funnyman Michael Myers has been part of some of the industry’s most iconic and recognisable films of the 21st century.
He’s the voice behind everyone’s favourite green ogre Shrek, the face of Garth’s goofy pal in Wayne’s World and the sexually charged spy in Austin Powers.
The 58-year-old has won numerous accolades, including MTV Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award and a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
He rose to fame after he appeared on US comedy show Saturday Night Live, where the premise for Wayne’s World was born, and hasn’t looked back since, most recently starring in Inglorious Basterds and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Take a look at some of the more unknown facts about one of the world’s most famous comedians.
Mike’s immense fortune was garnered due to his filmography’s intense pop culture following and is reportedly worth a staggering $200 million (£159m), after an impressive 33 years in the business.
According to celebritynetworth.com, the star earned £1 million for Wayne’s World and $3.5 million (£2.7m)for the cult classic’s sequel.
He earned the same for the first Austin Powers film, which crept up to $7 million (£5.5m) for the sequel and a staggering $25 million (£20m) for the third instalment.
Hollywood star Mike was born into humble beginnings in Scarborough, Canada back in 1963.
His parents Eric, an insurance agent, and Alice, a royal Air Force veteran, were from Liverpool and Mike returned upon his father’s death to scatter his ashes on the River Mersey.
Back in 2013, the actor also described Liverpool as his “home” after he was the guest of honour at Anfield Stadium: “Our house was a shrine to Liverpool. I love the people here and I really do think it's my home.”
Mike and co-star Dana Carvey starred as best buds in the Wayne’s World movies, but in real life the stars have had a rocky relationship.
The pair exploded onto screens on SNL but after Wayne’s World 2, the pair went their separate ways.
Believe it or not, the former friends even stopped speaking due to a string of minor fallings out, but after two decades Dana admitted that he had eventually forgiven Myers.
The comedian has three kids with his wife Kelly Tisdale, whom he married in a secret ceremony back in 2010.
At one point in Wayne’s World Mike speaks Cantonese, which is completely authentic as he is fluent in the language.
He also holds triple nationality with citizenships in Canada, Britain and America.
The Beatles’ praise
Singer George Harrison wrote his last ever letter to Mike to “thank him” for his movies as they were “so much fun”.
The pair never met but were fans of each other’s work and George reached out to Mike before his death in 2001.
Myers has admitted that he has the letter framed and has called it “the greatest thing”.
