Holiday comparison website Travel Supermarket has compared live prices last year and this year between February 28 and March 2 for package holidays between April and August.

Overall, the average holiday price was lower last year as a result of Brexit uncertainty, but there are certain pockets where the prices are now considerably cheaper.

Significant price drops across areas of Greece are up to 33 per cent cheaper, Thailand is up to 25 per cent cheaper,  Turkey is up to 21 per cent cheaper and Spain is up to 13 per cent cheaper when looking at year on year costs.

TravelSupermarket’s travel commentator, Emma Grimster said: “It is interesting to see a third of the top 15 destinations which have seen the biggest price drops are long-haul destinations.

Phuket in Thailand, St Lucia, Mauritius, Barbados and the Maldives. Mid-haul, Dubai also makes the list at four per cent cheaper year on year.”

There have been some noticeable drops in search interest for popular locations among Brits too.

Package holiday searches for Venice and the Costa Brava have both dropped by 83 per cent, Sardinia by 76 per cent, Tenerife by 75 per cent and Fuerteventura by 71 per cent.

However, there has also been a big spike in searches for other destinations, with searches for Las Vegas up by 60 per cent and for Benalmadena on the Costa Del Sol up by 111 per cent.

Emma said: “Despite Coronavirus dominating the news, people are still searching for holidays and trying to get the best deal they can."

She continued: "In terms of demand, we’ve seen a rise in the number of people looking to visit some areas of the USA, year on year.

"New York, Las Vegas and Orlando are all in the top five destinations searched for last weekend, with searches for Las Vegas found to be up by 60 per cent vs the same period last year."
