Gino D'Acampo has been dealt a huge career blow as his pasta restaurants have gone into liquidation after having debts on £5m.

The chef's My Pasta Bar restaurant chain is being forced to close after losing hundreds of thousands of pounds since first opening in 2012.

It was reported by The Sun that the chain borrowed millions and has had to lay off multiple staff members.

Paperwork recently lodged with Companies House shows that the 45-year-old chef has called in liquidators.

The Sun reports that £4,939,332 is owed to 49 creditors as well as another £113,975 to HMRC and £37,887 in staff wages.

The pasta chain described itself as: "TV chef's trendy industrial café with fresh pasta, Italian snacks and sweets to eat in or take away."

The accounts for Gino's parent company show that it has £1.65m in investments which includes £821,494 in property.

This is as well as the TV star earning around £2m a year himself.

The Gino D’Acampo restaurant chain will be unaffected by the other chain's money issues.

It was recently reported that Gino would be opening a restaurant in Cheshire at the Piccolino site in Alderley Edge.

They will be renaming it to Luciano, named after his eldest son.

It will be part of the new 'premium' brand that Gino previously launched in London earlier in the summer.

The MEN reported that Gino said: "I have many friends in Alderley Edge and the surrounding areas, it's an amazing place and one in which I'm super excited to open."

He talked about how great the location is for business.

Gino added: "I'm looking forward to spending time here with my amazing team and incredible, loyal guests."

He also co-owns Bontà Italia Ltd, a supplier of Italian ingredients, and has a career in the development of ready meals, beginning with the Tesco Finest range.

Gino does a lot of TV work, especially for ITV including now being the main host of Family Fortunes and being part of Gino, Fred and Gordon's Road Trip.

He also regularly appears on ITV's This Morning as he puts on cooking segments.
