On the occasion of Paris Design Week, Batiik Studio unveiled its first furniture collection, entitled “Dans le sillage de Nérée.”
The Paris-based interior architecture and design agency is committed to creating a world that is joyful, vibrant, refined, and harmonious. With a penchant for curiosity and experimentation, Batiik Studio’s creations have always centered around finding a balance between aesthetics with rationality.
The collection’s name, “Dans le sillage de Nérée” translates to “In the Wake of Nereus,” which refers to one of the sea gods in ancient Greek mythology, who was believed to have resided in the Aegean Sea. As an ode to the Mediterranean shores and a love letter to summer, the collection derives its design inspiration from seashells, as well as other small treasures that could be found by the seaside.
All the pieces in the collection play on different textures, finishes, and materials, which somehow all fit together in a harmonious, yet eclectic manner. The Calypso modular sofa carries a warm mood and color palette, meanwhile, the Agavé bookshelf features a curved and velvety build that’s accentuated with wooden elements. Boasting a straw-like frame, the Néritès mirror actually fitted in sculpted ceramic. As for the Galatée table, it features a tabletop in pink enamel and engraved with wobbly lines to emulate the look of sea shells. Securing the large table, are two asymmetrical legs crafted from cherry wood, both boasting sculptural and globular forms.
The collection is currently on display at the Élitis showroom in Paris, and it will remain on view until October 31, 2023.
