Last night while you were minding your own business, TMZ reported (and online government records confirm) that controversial 19 Kids and Counting star, Josh Duggar, had been arrested in Arkansas. The outlet also published Josh’s mugshot, which has gotten a lot of attention due to the fact that he appears to be smirking (see above^).
Details surrounding Josh’s arrest are extremely mysterious at this time, but here’s what we know thus far:
He was arrested by the feds.
Per TMZ and the digital arrest record, Josh was arrested by federal agents in Washington County, Arkansas.
He is being held without bail.
Josh is reportedly in a detention center being held without bail, which means he likely won’t be released anytime soon.
His office was raided in 2019
While the reason for Josh’s arrest us unclear at this time, TMZ notes that Homeland Security raided his car dealership office in connection to a federal probe back in 2019.
He’ll go before a judge on Friday
Per KNWA, Josh is expected to go before a judge today (Friday April 30) at 11:00 a.m.
We’ll be updating this as more information emerges, but FYI this is not the first time Josh has made headlines outside his family’s TV show. In 2015, the reality star was accused of molesting multiple girls when he was 14. “Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends,” he said in a statement at the time, per Us Weekly. “I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life. I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions. I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. In my life today, I am so very thankful for God’s grace, mercy and redemption.”
Josh also was involved in a scandal when his Ashley Madison account was found in 2015, after which he confessed to having a pornography addiction and to cheating on his wife, according to People.
