Tributes have been flooding in for Sean Lock who died aged 58 from cancer. The comedian once opened up about fighting skin cancer as he warned fans to use sunscreen.

He previously impressed on his followers the importance of this after he found a melanoma in his late 20s.

This was spotted on his back by a one night stand called Tina, according to the star.

He explained back in 2010: “I was with a girl called Tina one night and if I hadn’t been, well, I’d be dead now.

“Because she noticed something about me that I hadn’t.

“She said there was something weird on my back.

“I asked her what it looked like and she said it was a patch of skin which was black, misshapen, with a crusty texture and about the size of a 10p piece.

At the time, Sean continued: “I had no idea how long it had been there. It didn’t hurt or itch, so there was nothing that would have drawn my attention to it.”

Sean explained to the Daily Mail how he booked an appointment straight away and had it cut away.

The doctor also shared how a biopsy showed it was a malignant melanoma, which if it hadn’t been spotted would have quickly spread.

By this time, the cancer may well have been incurable after spreading to his lymphatic system.

Over his life, Sean supported many cancer charities and often raised awareness for skin cancer.

His agents at Off The Kerb confirmed he had died earlier today in a statement.

This read: “Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.

“Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children.

“Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him.”

They also confirmed the comedian died of cancer at home, but did not comment on which form of the disease.

Among those paying tribute to the star today was Alan Davies who said he had “quietly” wrestled with cancer for years.

He penned on Twitter: “Sad news about Sean Lock. Funny on stage, hilarious off.

“We met in 1988 right at the start of our stand up careers.”

“I hadn’t seen him in recent years as he quietly wrestled with illness but I feel very sad today for Anoushka [Sean’s wife] and their children. RIP Locky.”
