Former Countdown presenter Nick Hewer, 77, asked Rachel Riley, 35, if she had given away anything she regrets. The mother-of-one said she hadn’t, but her husband Pasha Kovalev, 41, had given away clothes due to his “fluctuating weight”.

She revealed in a recent episode of the show: “I haven’t, but my lovely dear husband when he’s dancing, he goes like a rake so he buys all these clothes that fit him when he’s like a stick and then when he’s off dancing, he has a couple beers and goes back to a normal size.

“His clothes go from tiny to normal size, so he has a clear out and gives away the stuff that doesn’t fit him.”

Rachel added his hand-me-down items had gone to herself and other members of her family.

“Between me and my family, I’ve had some of his trousers, my brother who is a few inches taller and a bit broader, he’s nicked a suit and even my mum has nicked some of his jumpers – he’s dressing the whole family,” she added.

“That’s the thing, he does fluctuate.”

“He looks in good shape to me,” Nick added of Pasha, who was a guest in the studio at the time.

Rachel’s spouse, who she married in 2019, left his role as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing in the same year.

Last year, he returned to the spotlight to announce a new tour with Strictly pros Aljaz Skorjanec and Graziano Di Prima.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus, the Here Come The Boys tour was postponed to later this year.

Last week, he also announced a new virtual show with his fellow dancer Anya Garnis.

The dancer left the BBC dance show after eight years to “find a new challenge”.

He said as part of a lengthy statement at the time: “After scoring 93 perfect tens, reaching four finals and lifting one Glitterball, it’s time for me to find a new challenge and so I’ve decided to make last year my final season on Strictly.

“I’ve had eight fantastic years, full of wonderful memories, thanks to the incredible partners, professional and myriad of behind the scenes teams wholly working to make Strictly the amazing production that it is.

“The biggest thanks go to all the members of the public who’ve supported me so much over these years.”

In the same year, he tied the knot in secret with Rachel at a ceremony in Las Vegas.

Ahead of this, she announced they were expecting their first child together and gave birth to daughter Maven in December

The pair met when they danced together on the show back in 2013.

The former dancing duo became the fifth couple to leave the show following a dance off with Abbey Clancy and Aljaz, who went on to win the Glitterball trophy.

During his time on the show, he also danced with the likes of Ashley Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and the late Caroline Flack.

Countdown airs weekdays from 2.10pm on Channel 4.
