Piers Morgan took to Twitter and hit out at Boris Johnson’s plans to lift restrictions as the UK has seen a spike in coronavirus cases. The former Good Morning Britain star shared his fury at the UK government’s latest decision.
At the Downing Street press conference today, the Prime Minister made the announcement about the final easing of lockdown measures in England.
Due to a rise in Covid cases and the need for more people to be vaccinated, the date for easing remain lockdown restrictions was delayed until at least July 19.
In two weeks in England, the coronavirus restrictions will be lifted after 16 months in lockdown.
Taking to Twitter, Piers lashed out at Boris for taking a “massive gamble” during the pandemic, as he claimed that the Prime Minister’s other “gambles have not worked”.
In view of his 7.9 million followers, Piers fumed: “So, to summarise: we’re steaming ahead to covid ‘freedom’ on July 19 as cases & hospitalisations are accelerating again & just 1/3 of us have been fully vaccinated.
“Boris Johnson is taking yet another massive gamble in this pandemic – and none of his other gambles worked.”
Piers’ tweet sparked division within the comment section, as some social media users disagreed with his stance on lifting lockdown restrictions.
One wrote: “If you don’t want to open up now, you never will. Covid is never going away.”
