Kate Garraway, 53, has given fans a humorous insight into her struggles with homeschooling as she shared a video of her 11-year-old son Billy’s cheeky antics. The Good Morning Britain presenter is teaching Billy and her daughter Darcey, 14, at home due to schools being closed amid the third coronavirus lockdown.

Kate is working with her kids on her own, as her husband Derek Draper, 53, remains in hospital due to his battle with COVID-19.

The journalist shared a video her son had filmed with her 975,000 Instagram followers this evening, in which he attempted to avoid doing his online classes for school.

The youngster could be seen approaching the camera and saying: “Don’t tell anyone, I’m supposed to be online schooling.

“But I’m watching TV, okay, so shhhh,” he whispered, while trying to hide his activities from his mum.

However, Kate soon became suspicious and could be heard calling to her son from the other room to see if he was getting on with his work.

She said: “Bill, are you actually doing any work?”

“Yeah,” he replied, to which an unconvinced Kate responded, “Are you sure?”

Kate then decided to see what Billy was up to for herself and exclaimed: “You’re not!”

The presenter then threw two plastic balls at her son before he charged at her with his Star Wars inspired Lightsaber.

“What the hell!” Billy shouted before he chased after his mum, who had burst into a fit of giggles.

Updating her fans on the situation at home, Kate wrote alongside the funny clip: “Where have you got to with home schooling in your house?

“This is where we are! Think it was me that learnt a lesson here – don’t mess with an 11 yr old with a light sabre!!!”

Kate went on to reveal she will be discussing homeschooling with her co-stars Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins on GMB tomorrow.

She added: “So glad it’s #friday tomorrow join us on @gmb from 6 for all the latest #covid news, #love in #lockdown with @joeyessex AND a debate on #burntout parents! @benshephardofficial @charlottehawkins1.”

Fans took to the comments section of Kate’s post to share their thoughts on her candid family insight.

One person wrote: “Adorable wee boy. Keep smiling Kate, you are a true inspiration to us all. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.”

Another added: “Lovely to see some happiness in your house when times are so tough for you all at this time.”

It comes after Kate’s other half Derek was rushed to hospital last March with a near-fatal case of coronavirus.

He has remained in hospital ever since, and Kate admitted doctors at the time had noted it was once of the worse cases of infection they had seen.

Opening up on Derek’s condition, Kate said: “We’re really hoping we’re on some kind of trajectory of improvement.

“It’s very much two steps forward, three steps back.

“But if I think back to where we were in March 2020, when Derek’s lungs were solid with infection and his infection rates were the highest doctors had seen in anyone who has lived, we’re undoubtedly in a more positive place,” she added to Good Housekeeping.
