Inside Mickey Guyton’s Relationship With Her Husband

Singer-songwriter Mickey Guyton made history at the 2021 Grammy Awards when she became the first ever Black female country star to perform. As the L.A. Times notes, Guyton played her politically engaged hit “Black Like Me,” which contains sharp lyrics such as, “If you think we live in the land of the free / You should try to be Black like me,” while backed by a choir. “Black Like Me” was released when the Black Lives Matter movement was gaining traction after George Floyd’s murder.

The song gives a damning insight into Guyton’s well-documented struggles as a Black woman in country music. Aside from performing onstage, Guyton was nominated for the country solo performance — the first Black female solo artist, again, to be nominated in that category. Although she wasn’t victorious, the loss is unlikely to have dimmed Mickey Guyton’s shine, since her career is clearly on the up and up, while her personal life is going even better.

Mickey Guyton has been happily settled down for a while

Mickey Guyton is happily married to and shares one child with Grant Savoy. They wed in 2017, in an intimate ceremony with just 23 guests, per People. The couple dated for seven years prior to getting hitched, and were engaged for four. Their wedding took place in Kauai, Hawaii, where Savoy has family. As Guyton explained, “Having a big wedding is really not my thing, so when my family decided on a vacation to Kauai, I thought, ‘Why not let it be a family vacation turned wedding?'” The couple met through her BFF, who’s also Savoy’s stepsister. The country star wore David’s Bridal, gushing, “The entire day was so beautiful and intimate with lots of laughs and tears.”

Speaking to Sounds Like Nashville, Guyton explained she wanted to keep it small because “Being in the entertainment industry and always being in the limelight, I didn’t want to do that with my relationship and I don’t do that with my relationship.” The couple welcomed their first child, Grayson, in February 2021 (via Instagram). In an interview with People just a few weeks later, the country star enthused, “Being a mom is probably one of the greatest things I will ever experience,” explaining, “there’s no other better feeling” than looking “at this baby’s face that you held in your body for so long.” Savoy took over baby duties in the run-up to the Grammys, to ensure his lady was rested and ready.
