Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton announced their engagement in the fall of 2020. Since then, the couple has remained pretty quiet about their big day. But fans have been speculating about big names who could perform at the reception.
Finally, the Hollaback Girl singer has spilled some details. Will the wedding be the star-studded event that fans expect?
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton kept their engagement secret for a week
Stefani recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers for the first time since announcing her engagement. Meyers recalled that Stefani’s last appearance on the late-night talk show was the night before she and Shelton shared their big news.
The 51-year-old singer admitted that she was “technically” already engaged during her last appearance. But, she and Shelton had decided to keep it a secret.
“Yeah, well ya know, we got engaged about a week before that, and Blake was like ‘Let’s not tell anyone — let’s just, like, make it ours for a minute,’” Stefani explained. “I was like ‘Yeah, of course.’ But, I was dying to tell everybody, you know what I mean?”
There was a clue for eagle-eyed fans
Stefani confessed that she felt guilty about keeping the engagement a secret during her last appearance on Late Night. But, as Shelton pointed out during his appearance on the show in December – there was a clue about the engagement for eagle-eyed fans.
Looking back at a clip of Stefani’s October 2020 appearance on the show, the singer was wearing her engagement ring. But, according to Shelton, because she was wearing so much jewelry, no one noticed.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are are ‘keeping it very simple’
During the interview, Stefani finally spoke publicly about what she and Shelton are planning for their wedding day. Fans might be surprised to learn that the couple is “keeping it very simple. Really simple.” She told Meyers that they’re planning an intimate ceremony with a small, exclusive guest list.
“I think the guest list will not have a lot of musicians. It’ll be like my mom and my dad. It’s literally going to be just family. We are looking forward to that, though,” she explained.
Keeping things low-key and simple with a limited guest list is what Shelton and Stefani want for their wedding day. Another big priority is making it “fun” for themselves and their loved ones.
“It’s going to be fun. We’re going to make it really fun, but it’s not going to be a big [event]. It’s not like the queen and king are getting married or something like that,” Stefani noted.
Will Adam Levine perform?
When Shelton appeared on Meyers’ late-night show, he joked about booking his former The Voice co-star Adam Levine and his band Maroon 5 to perform at the reception. Shelton says that he’s seen Maroon 5’s video for Sugar, where they crash people’s weddings. And, he believes the former Voice coach “owes” him a lot.
“He may not like it, but Adam Levine’s gonna have to get the band together and come and play our wedding,” Shelton said. “I’ve already seen a music video where they crash people’s weddings and he owes me a lot for just putting up with him over the years. So I think we can get Adam to come be our wedding band.”
Gwen Stefani says ‘no’ to Maroon 5
When asked on SiriusXM radio if he would be down for performing at the wedding, Levine said he would love to. He says he loves and misses both Shelton and Stefani, but joked that they would probably never hire him. Instead, he thinks they’ll hire Luke Bryan.
According to Stefani, she would “love to have Adam sing” at the wedding. But, she says they’re not going to have a wedding band. Instead, she says they are “just going to go with a playlist.”
