Adele quits alcohol to prepare voice for singing comeback

Adele has revealed that she's given up alcohol in a bid to protect her voice ahead of her hugely anticipated music comeback.

Her new single, Easy On Me, is coming out this Thursday and the singer is making sure her voice is fully prepared.

Last week, Adele did a surprise Instagram Live for her fans in which she answered their questions – and revealed she has quit alcohol.

When asked what her favourite drink is, Adele said: "Aperol spritz, I love that. Although because I'm gearing up to come back I'm having to cut out my drinking."

In her interview with Vogue, the singer explained how she has a "close relationship" with alcohol.

She revealed: "I was always very fascinated by alcohol. It's what kept my dad from me. So I always wanted to know what was so great about it."

She added how she started to drink more than usual when the nation was plunged into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but started to suffer from “hangxiety.”

Adele, who described herself as a "seven-nights-a-week wine drinker," admitted: “I'm always a bit hungover on Monday morning. It got earlier and earlier, the drinking.

“I was falling out the back door of the bar rather than falling out of the front. Then I remember I woke up with the worst hangover.

“Hangxiety, I call it. 'Who did I talk to? What did I do?’ It was a month of me going crazy.”

It’s no wonder Adele is going to extreme measures to protect her famous voice.

Back in 2011, she underwent surgery on her vocal cords to stop recurrent bleeding from a benign polyp.

The singer was forced to cancel a string of tour dates and promotional appearances after losing her voice.

Speaking about having to cancel her tour, Adele said at the time: “If I continue to pick up everything before I have properly conquered these problems and nipped them in the bud, I will be totally and utterly f*.

“Singing is literally my life, it's my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my job.”

Adele split from her husband Simon Konecki back in 2019, but their divorce wasn’t finalised until earlier this year.

The singer has admitted that she wrote her new album to explain to their eight-year-old son, Angelo, why they got divorced.

"I wanted to explain to him, when he's in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness," Adele told Vogue.

"It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that's a real wound for me that I don't know if I'll ever be able to heal.”
