Laura Hamilton has opened up about her teenage years ahead of becoming a presenter on A Place In The Sun. The mum-of-two shared the details of her first ever property purchase and how her plans were quickly scuppered after she was made redundant.
The 39-year-old shared her entrepreneurial woes with host Danielle Broadbent during a tell-all chat on the podcast I Dare You.
The Channel 4 favourite explained that it had always been her dream to work in television but her parents had insisted that she have a backup plan.
Laura made the decision to delve into the world of investing and get on the property ladder aged just 19.
At the time, lenders were offering five per cent mortgages and the businesswoman bought her first flat.
“My parents knew that I wanted to get into television and at the time I was on TV,” Laura explained.
“They always said that it’s really important to have a backup plan and property seemed like the sensible thing.
“But three months after I bought that property, I was working on a shopping channel.”
She added: “I ended up losing my job and being made redundant.
“I was thinking, ‘Oh my God. What am I going to do now? I’m 19, I’ve got this mortgage and no job. I’m screwed.”
Laura revealed that she made the decision to move back into her parents’ home and rent out her purchase.
The Channel 4 presenter explained that she was able to turn a potentially negative situation into a positive outcome.
Laura added that she kept the flat for a couple of years before deciding to sell and during the process was able to save enough funds for a second deposit for a property.
